Drive-by-wire throttles and idle systems learn their own behaviour. After a battery disconnect, a throttle-body clean or a parts replacement, those learned values can be off — leaving a rough, high or surging idle.

I perform the electronic throttle and idle relearn on supported vehicles. If the real cause is physical — a vacuum leak, a dirty throttle body — I'll tell you that instead of charging you for a relearn that can't fix it.

Cutting power clears the values the throttle and idle systems hold in memory. The relearn teaches them the correct idle position again, where supported.

Is this engine repair?

No — it's an electronic adaptation procedure. No mechanical work is done on the engine.
